An update to the Earth Federation Forces' original mass production artillery mobile suit, the RGC-80 GM Cannon, the RGC-180 GM Cannon III goes into service in the early UC 0080s, replacing the older GM Cannon as the mainstay artillery mobile suit. Operated by the Federation Forces and the upstart Anti-Earth Union Group, the GM Cannon III is commonly used during the early days of the Gryps Conflict in UC 0087. The RGC-180 was based on the updates to the GM II which resulted in a slight increase in overall performance and targeting that was missing from the original RGC-80. The RGC-180 was fielded well into UC-0093 where at the Federal Forces Torrington base, the several units were fitted with GM semi-Striker parts as a means of upgrading their defensive capabilities. In a page taken from the RGC-83 GM Cannon II each RGC-180 was fitted with a Beam Saber for close combat, but the rest of the weapons are unchanged from the original RGC-80.
