The YMS-07D was built as part of Zeon's Afrika Initiative, which was a plan to deal with mobile suit combat over sandy terrain, where the Principality was quickly discovering that their machines struggled to even function. The loose sand often threw off the AMBAC sensors int he legs causing the machines to sink into the sand, and the joints tended to seize thanks to that same sand clogging up the servos and actuators resulting in rigid slow movement. Because of the extreme wear caused by the Sahara, the Pezun company began redesigning Zeon's mainstay mobile suits to better cope with the harsh environment. The first machines to undergo such changes were the MS-06 Zaku II units which were resigned as the MS-06D, following the success  of the Desert Zaku those same design changes were further improved upon and tested on Zeon's newest terrestrial mobile suit, the MS-07B Gouf. The YMS-07D featured larger exhaust ports on the leg, in part to blow sand away from the sensitive joints of the machine, and in part to reduce the heat generated by the operation of the leg servos. Exhaust ports were also added to the YMS-07D's chest, as the desert heat had helped to raise the reactors temperature levels to potentially unsafe levels. The exhaust port in the head was also enlarged, because of overheating issues which shortened the life span of the regular MS-07B's mono-eye camera.

Only a handful of prototype units were created one falling into the capable of hands of Zeon Afrika Corps commander Garren Rommel. Rommel was incredibly capable, a tactical genius, whome the Federation soldiers serving in Afrika dubbed, "The Second Coming of the Desert Fox." Eventually though Rommel's tactical genius was outmatched by the overwhelming numbers of Federation soldiers, and he and his men were forced into a midnight retreat to Zeon's last hidden stronghold, the Kilimanjaro base.  The original intention was to return to space, but the Federation pursuit forces eventually found stragglers from Rommel's unit forcing Rommel to abandon his plans. In a last ditch effort to protect his forces Rommel and his YMS-07D attacked the pursuing federation forces. In a battle said to have lasted one hour, Rommel by himself managed to eliminate ten federation Ground GM's before he was finally overwhelmed and killed in the early hours of November the 24th.

Red's Notes:

Well here it is, the last gem I'll ever be making it. I know it's probably not as glamorous as many of you were hoping but at the end of the day my love and heart has mostly been with grunt mobile suits. Being a plain grunt myself it feels fitting to go out on such a simplistic note. Once more I just want to say thank you for all the support and love I've felt from everyone of my followers over the years, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for supporting my habit.

Your friend in Frankening,
                                RedZaku.

micro-missile warheads converted to anti-Vajra MDE warhead specification

The mass production version of the YF-29 Durandal the VF-29 Joyeuse, serves an all around variable fighter intended for both Intercept and Ground Support missions. In order to conserve fuel the ramjet engines mounted on the wings were removed from the final design, while the engines used for the YF-30 Chronos were adapted for mass production and would later be featured on the VF-31 Siegfried as well after their overheating problem was solved. The Joyeuse also sees the return of the more traditional Mauler beam guns, as the design team found them to be more versatile in combat than the head mounted machine guns from the prototype model. No longer a purely anti-Vajra variable fighter, the unit boasted excellent combat performance and became a mainstay in the Macross Frontier Fleet by the year 2062, having replaced the aging VF-25 and VF-27 respectively.

Let the countdown begin, it's been fun hopefully you guys will enjoy my last few submissions! P.S. The spec format I use for this Macross build was developed by C. Wilson over at Macross Mecha Manual, the link will be below, so check it out if you're a fan of Macross.

So it's been about two years since my last entry I suppose. My birthday's right around the corner again, and as always I'm apologizing that I don't update more often. I'm getting older now, and I look back on all I've done, all I've made and every piece brings back a fond memory, a song that came on while I was working on a particular mobile suit, memories of the stories I planned to use some of my stuff in, and the feelings of accomplishments that came from rolling out a new design. Well, I can honestly say it's been a blast, but I'm nearing the end of the line as far this stuff goes. So the deal is, I'm going to be posting the last bits of my artwork culminating in my last ever mobile suit which will be posted June 24th. It's been fun, and I thank everyone who's supported me, and liked all the work I've done, and has been looking forward to every update I make. You guys brought me back into the hobby the first time I thought I was done, and now that I'm finally at a place where I want to hang it up, I can proudly say, thank you for the love and support.

I'm Red Zaku, I've been frankening and creating art in Photoshop for years, but I limit myself mostly to Gundam mecha. I've done some branching out to stuff like fictional weapons, and yes, even cars but I usually stick close to my wheel house. If you're visiting from MAHQ's forums then, you'll notice not all of my art is here, again this is because I only posted what I could salvage from my old computer. So if you have some of my old stuff send it to me and I'll put it up here. Thanks everyone! :D

Operating System: Windows Vista
MP3 player of choice: Sony PSP
Favourite cartoon character: Meatwad
